Hot Rod Build Tribute by Chris "The Betty Hunter" Garcia

Dad's Dream

The bond between father and son is a unique relationship. A father, essentially is role model and a protector of his family. To protect, provide, and procreate is ingrained in us at a very young age which has been passed down from generation to generation. I'm a firm believer that we carry on the best qualities from our fathers and we subconsciously project those values onto others which is how we become the "spitting image" of them. At a young age, especially in adolescent stages, we tend to be defiant and competitive towards our fathers but that's a positive thing. It's in our nature to be that way because we want to be as respected and honored as we have done to our own fathers. In that aspect, we eventually accept that fact and become proud of becoming more like them. I may be speaking for myself on this, but the point is our fathers live on through their sons.

This last March, my good friend Chris Garcia parted planes with his father and best friend, Ysidro "Easy" Garcia Jr. Although I personally did not have the honor to meet such a great person, it was obvious that their bond was unshakable. The passion they both had for hot rods and cruisers is what built that bond and made it stronger. They decided they would build a hot rod together after his dad's retirement so Chris is continuing the project in memory of his father. This is the beginning of two ongoing projects which will make two cars out of one. Watching Chris work on the Model A was inspiring to see the passion and determination he had which was more than one man could exude. I was witnessing the spirit of his father through him that day and he couldn't have been more proud of Chris.

In loving memory of

Ysidro "Easy" Garcia Jr.

May you Race In Paradise.

Wellema Hat Co. Pop-Up Shop @ Sweeney Todd's, Los Angeles, CA

The Hollywood Hustle

It's nights like these that make you stop and wonder which era you've stepped into because the atmosphere and crowd have subconsciously brought you back into time. As always when photographing Cody Wellema, you can expect him to fit right into the scene. His loyal supporters and fans are also a big contribution to setting the scene this night. They always show up properly dressed
so every scene looks like a part of history from another era. Also hats off to Sweeney Todd's Barber Shop, which looks like it hasn't changed much since the late 1940's yet remains in pristine condition. Such a cool piece of Los Angeles history and right off Hollywood Blvd.

There's a first time for everything, and when you work with new people there's always that bridge to cross before things become natural. Working with this team of creative and genuine people made bridging that gap just a hop across. This was everyone's first time meeting each other but things fell right into place. A special thanks go out to Jim for letting us use his impeccable work garage and letting us move all his bikes around. You can purchase these shirts on the Mischief Made website, so get them while they're hot!
